R U OK? Is Your Business OK?
Yesterday marked International R U OK Day, a day dedicated to checking in on the well-being of ourselves and those around us.
It’s a reminder to pause, reflect, and ask a simple but meaningful question: “R U OK?”
But here’s another question you might want to consider: “Is your business OK?”
As business owners, we often face unique challenges and pressures that can take a toll on your personal and professional lives. In this blog post, we’ll explore the importance of checking in on your business and how seeking guidance can lead to growth and alignment.
Having run my own business for over 14 years, I appreciate that business can be a thrilling and rewarding journey.
It’s an opportunity to be your own boss, shape your destiny, and create something meaningful.
However, the entrepreneurial path also comes with its share of ups and downs. At times, the journey can feel overwhelming, and challenges may seem insurmountable. A bit of a roller-coater really, right?
If you’ve ever felt like you’re putting in endless hours doing behind-the-scenes work without seeing your desired results, you’re not alone.
Because as business owners, we often grapple with personal struggles that aren’t readily apparent to others.
For example, it’s not uncommon to doubt your abilities, fear rejection, or even downplay your challenges to save face.
I know this, because I’ve been there myself.
I remember, when I started my journey, that I was so thrilled to be my own boss and finally take control of my future, but the reality was far from the excitement I’d envisioned.
That’s because I found myself struggling to make ends meet and lived off 2-minute noodles to survive.
What made things more crazy, was the pressure to portray my business as a success, especially when it wasn’t.
The question is, why did I feel compelled to mask the reality of my business’s challenges?
For me, I believe it came down to the fact that I didn’t want others to perceive me as fraud, and so I lied, when I was asked, R U OK?
You’re NOT ALONE!
Having worked with many coaches and healers over the years, it’s not uncommon to witness that they often have a belief that they can or HAVE TO do it all on their own.
And funny enough, what I often hear, is that they assume that because they have expertise in their field, they can naturally excel in business. However, this doesn’t always hold true, because just as we learn our profession from experts, we can also learn from from being around those who have mastered the art of entrepreneurship.
Looking back, I was lucky, because I met a wonderful business coach in my first year of business and I KNEW that I had to hire her straight away. Rhiannon Rees, was an ActionCOACH at the time and had also run her own successful spas in Whistler.
Working with Rhiannon not only taught me the ropes of business but also provided invaluable insights into myself.
This experience inspired me to combine coaching with kinesiology, enabling individuals to uncover and address the root causes of their challenges. By unraveling the barriers preventing them from reaching their goals, we create a path to more effective self-promotion and business success.
So instead of being busy being busy and distracting myself with all the tasks that weren’t growing my business, she helped me to focus on what really mattered.
Income-producing activities.
And so, instead of just focusing on if you’re ok, I’m asking – is your business is OK too?
If your business isn’t feeling “OK” right now, remember that you don’t have to navigate this journey alone.
